I woke up today relatively happy. Went about doing the things I had to do. Very slowly, thoughts and memories of past relationships started to creep into my head. By mid-afternoon, they were white-water rafting in my head. So here is the question. Why do unhappy and sad thoughts haunt us so much?
I mean, when something bad happens to us, we tend to remember them for a very long time and once in a while, when you think things are going to be ok, they just come flooding back. Taunting you, harassing you.
On the other side of the river however, when something good happens, it does not last so long. You will remember it, you will smile when you think about it, but a couple of years down the road, you won’t give it a second thought. You will be out chasing the next happy memory. (with the bad ones following you. They call them emotional baggage hee hee.)
so are we, humans, a truly sad ceature where we are constantly haunted by saddness, and chase happiness, just to keep the saddness at bay a little while longer?
I am reading this book called “Dogs don’t bite when a growl will do”, and it said for dogs, discontent is fleeting and for man happiness is fleeting. No matter how we scold our dogs and they put their tails between their legs, sulking. They will always come wagging their tails to you when next you call them. We should learn a little from “Man’s best friend.”
