Happiness

Golden Retriever

I woke up today relatively happy. Went about doing the things I had to do. Very slowly, thoughts and memories of past relationships started to creep into my head. By mid-afternoon, they were white-water rafting in my head. So here is the question. Why do unhappy and sad thoughts haunt us so much?

I mean, when something bad happens to us, we tend to remember them for a very long time and once in a while, when you think things are going to be ok, they just come flooding back. Taunting you, harassing you.

On the other side of the river however, when something good happens, it does not last so long. You will remember it, you will smile when you think about it, but a couple of years down the road, you won’t give it a second thought. You will be out chasing the next happy memory. (with the bad ones following you. They call them emotional baggage hee hee.)

so are we, humans, a truly sad ceature where we are constantly haunted by saddness, and chase happiness, just to keep the saddness at bay a little while longer?

I am reading this book called “Dogs don’t bite when a growl will do”, and it said for dogs, discontent is fleeting and for man happiness is fleeting. No matter how we scold our dogs and they put their tails between their legs, sulking. They will always come wagging their tails to you when next you call them. We should learn a little from “Man’s best friend.”

Just for Lizzie – Why is the Coke Can Red?

2 11 2006

1899 Coca-Cola Bottle
Now, there are two reasons why the Can that Coca-Cola comes in is red in colour. One is more interesting than the other.

    Interesting

Coke was invented in 1886, by John Stith Pemberton. Originally invented as a headache medicine made from coca plant and cola nuts. To keep to the theme of its herbal properties, Dr Pemberton wanted the words Coca-Cola (coined by his bookkeeper mind you, accountants are useful for somethings) in green. So when he wrote the sign, that said “Coca-Cola sold here for 5cents” he wrote it in green. Or what he thought was green. You see, the poor chap was colour-blinded. He had used red paint instead of green. As they say, the rest is history.

    Boring

Coke was invented in 1886, by John Stith Pemberton. Originally invented as a headache medicine made from coca plant, cola nuts and RED WINE. However due to the prohibition laws in the US at that time, he sweetened the mixture with sugar instead of wine. To keep with the theme of red wine, the name Coca-Cola was printed in Red. The original bottles were all glass and had no labels, however the adverts from as early as 1901 had a red theme, specially their winter adverts with Santa Claus. Since then, the Company logo and everything after that has been red.

(Disclaimer: The above has been fabricated by the author for the pleasure of the general reading public. It has no bearing on actual facts or events. Coca-Cola and Coke is a trademark of the Coca-Cola Company. So Coke please dun sue me…:P)

Driving Thoughts and Automatic Pilot

25 10 2006

So whats in the name?

Before i can explain why “Driving Thought”, first you must understand automatic pilot.

Automatic pilot is not the one that comes on multi-million dollar machines which think themselves as birds. Nor some sentient machine passing as a car from the near future. No, its that brief moment time, when you are behind the wheel of your car, but you are not really there. Sounds scary huh?

I am pretty sure it has happened to many. You know, when you are driving down that very familiar road, so familiar you know lt like that back of your hand? (for me is the maze of simpangs leading to my kampong). And sometimes, just sometimes, you get so lost in thought that you just navigate these roads out of pure instinct and memory. Thats automatic pilot.

Driving thoughts. Thoughts during these times of automatic pilot. I don’t know about you guys, but it happens to me. I sometimes fall into these thoughts so deeply, i forget where I am actually going in the first place, don’t realise I have been driving in total silence. (No music)

So…whats the point of all that rambling. Just to say this blog is just to chronicle some of my thoughts when I am on Auto Pilot.

to blog or not to blog

24 10 2006

jazzmoney, a buddy of mine denies much. Such as his quite obvious addiction to blogging. He went around Singapore asking me, “is there a hotspot here, is there a hotspot here” just so he can catchup on his blog mates and write in his blog.

So finally after many years since the beginning of this trend setting, world changing, people changing, hate-mail generating, world-village making, informative, sometimes depressing, sometimes uplifting, but most definitely addictive phenomena called blogging, I have decided to start one.

Let all the world be bored with my rants
